Idea & Basics

As part of the upcoming revival jam by the society of play I decided to make a game based on a game called "Silver Sword" on the Action 52 cartridge. It's a terrible top down fantasy single stick shooter and not much more, but its simplicity inspired me to make something that looks equally simple and hopefully make it somewhat less terrible.  It's also a great fit for this jam and a way for me to get it out of my head. It's been there for almost ten years now.

I'll also try doing daily devlogs on here as an experiment. Excluding days where I do nothing ofc.

I started only this evening after deciding to commit to this jam after hearing that it's going to be soon and I thought I wouldn't be able to participate, but it turns out the jam's longer than a week, so I can join anyways. I'll still miss the start, so I just start early. I hope noone feels this is unfair, but I just want to use my current freetime :) I'll miss later days anyways.

Currently I have a player statemachine, movement and a melee and ranged attack and basic enemy/hitbox/hurtbox/death setup. UI is just for show. Next steps will probably include designing some enemies/attacks, a way to get from one map to another, map design, making up some objective (Silver Sword didn't really have one afaik)

My goal for art is to make everything myself. BFXR and beepbox for sound, Aseprite for pixelart. Will start soon with some art too so I can find out where I want to go with it. I do want to keep a resemblence to Silver Sword, but a lot of it's visuals are also terrible.

I am using Godot 4.1 :)

This is a screenshot from SS, just so you get an idea.

We'll see how well this turns out
